Rolex Yacht-Master for sale in NYC

Yacht-Master 37, 40 and 42 references in Rolesium, Everose on Oysterflex, white gold, yellow gold and titanium, plus the 44mm Yacht-Master II regatta chronograph in steel, gold and Rolesor.

Rolex for the water and the deck

Rolex introduced the Yacht-Master in 1992 with the ref. 16628 in yellow gold. It brought a sailing identity to the Oyster case: a bidirectional bezel with raised numerals, more polished surfaces and a dressier look than the Submariner. In 1999 Rolex added Rolesium, a steel case paired with a platinum bezel, which made the model easier to wear every day. In 2007 the Yacht-Master II followed, a regatta chronograph built for timing sailing race starts.

Sizes and materials

The Yacht-Master comes in 37mm, 40mm and 42mm. The 40mm is the core size, in Rolesium or Everose gold. The 37mm is a mid size that suits smaller wrists. The 42mm arrived in 2019 in white gold and has since been made in yellow gold and RLX titanium. Gold models often come on the Oysterflex, a rubber-coated metal blade strap that Rolex first introduced on the Yacht-Master in 2015.

References to know

The 16622 and 116622 are the earlier 40mm Rolesium models, and the 126622 is the current one with the calibre 3235, offered with slate and blue dials. The 126655 is Everose on Oysterflex with a black ceramic bezel. The 268622 and 268655 are the 37mm equivalents. In 42mm, the 226659 is white gold, the 226658 yellow gold and the 226627 titanium. The Yacht-Master II measures 44mm and uses the calibre 4161 with a programmable countdown and Ring Command bezel: the 116688 is yellow gold, the 116689 white gold, the 116681 Everose Rolesor and the 116680 steel.

Buying advice

On Rolesium models, look at the platinum bezel for scratches; it is softer than ceramic. On Oysterflex models, check the strap for cuts or wear near the lugs and confirm the clasp locks firmly. On the Yacht-Master II, test the countdown: set it, start it, and confirm it resets correctly through the bezel and crown. Ask for service history on the II, since its movement is more complex. Check box and papers, and confirm the bracelet or strap is correct for the reference.

Questions

Rolex Yacht-Master questions

What is the difference between the Yacht-Master and the Submariner?

The Submariner is a dive watch with a unidirectional ceramic bezel and 300 meters of water resistance. The Yacht-Master has a bidirectional bezel with raised polished numerals, 100 meters of water resistance and more polished surfaces. It reads dressier and is often made in precious metals. Choose the Sub for diving and the Yacht-Master for a refined sport look.

Which Yacht-Master size should I choose?

The 40mm is the classic and fits most wrists. The 37mm suits smaller wrists or a slimmer look and is a frequent choice for women. The 42mm, in white gold, yellow gold or titanium, has more presence and a matte black ceramic bezel. Trying the sizes side by side shows the difference far better than the numbers do.

Is the Oysterflex strap comfortable and durable?

Yes. The Oysterflex has flexible metal blades coated in black elastomer, with cushions on the underside that keep it stable on the wrist. It is light, handles water well and resists wear better than leather. Check a pre-owned strap for cuts near the lugs and the clasp for a firm lock. Replacement straps are available through Rolex service.

What makes the Yacht-Master II different?

The Yacht-Master II is a 44mm regatta chronograph. Its countdown can be programmed from 1 to 10 minutes and has a mechanical memory, so it goes back to the chosen time when reset. The Ring Command bezel unlocks the programming. It is large and technical, aimed at sailors and at buyers who want a distinctive Rolex. Steel, Rolesor and gold versions were made.
