Back to the 1980 original
The Classic Fusion, launched in 2008, is the closest modern Hublot to the brand's first watch. In 1980 Carlo Crocco introduced a round gold watch with a porthole bezel on a natural rubber strap, a pairing no luxury brand had tried. The word hublot means porthole in French. The Classic Fusion keeps that slim profile and drops the chunky layered construction of the Big Bang, which makes it the dressier and more wearable side of Hublot.
Sizes, materials and references
The line covers 33mm, 38mm, 42mm and 45mm cases. Hublot references follow a pattern: the first three digits describe the model and size. References starting 511 are 45mm, 542 are 42mm, 565 are 38mm and 581 are 33mm. The two letters that follow give the material, for example NX for titanium, CM for black ceramic and OX for King Gold. The 542.NX.1171.RX is the 42mm titanium three-hand on rubber, one of the most common Classic Fusions. Beyond the time and date models, you will find the Classic Fusion Chronograph, the Aerofusion with an openworked dial, tourbillons, and the faceted editions designed with the sculptor Richard Orlinski.
Buying advice
The Classic Fusion is thin, so the case shows polish marks and dents more than a Big Bang does. Look at the bezel edges and the six H-shaped screws for tool marks. Check the date change around midnight and the crown action on three-hand models. Many come on a leather strap lined with rubber; ask about its condition and whether a spare is included. Gold and ceramic models often appear with aftermarket diamond bezels. Hublot does set diamonds at the factory, and any custom piece on our site is marked as custom. Match the serial number on the caseback to the papers.

A Classic Fusion often looks larger in photos than in person. Prices are listed on every watch. Call or text for a viewing by appointment in the Diamond District in Midtown Manhattan.
Questions
Hublot Classic Fusion questions
Classic Fusion or Big Bang: what is the difference?
The Classic Fusion is the slimmer, simpler Hublot. It has a single round case with a porthole bezel and usually shows time and date. The Big Bang uses a thicker layered case and is built around the chronograph. The Classic Fusion slides under a shirt cuff and works with a suit, while the Big Bang is a sports watch. Many owners keep one of each.
What size Classic Fusion should I buy?
The 42mm fits most men's wrists and is the most popular size. The 45mm wears big and suits larger wrists or anyone who wants a bolder look. The 38mm works for smaller wrists and for women who like a larger watch, and the 33mm is the most discreet. Because the case is thin, the Classic Fusion wears a little smaller than its diameter suggests.
Is titanium or King Gold better?
Titanium is light, comfortable and the most affordable material in the line. King Gold is Hublot's red gold alloy with platinum, warmer in color and much heavier on the wrist. Gold scratches more easily, but it holds value as a precious metal. Black ceramic is a third choice: very scratch resistant, light and modern looking, though it can chip if struck on an edge.
How do I change the strap on a Classic Fusion?
Hublot straps are shaped to fit the case and attach with screws or, on some newer models, a quick release system. Generic straps rarely fit properly, so buy replacements from Hublot. When you view a watch, check that the strap sits tight against the case with no gap and that the deployant clasp closes securely. Original straps are worth keeping even if you change the look.
