A new round watch from Le Brassus
Audemars Piguet introduced the Code 11.59 in 2019, its first major new collection in decades. The name stands for Challenge, Own, Dare, Evolve, and 11.59 refers to the last minute before a new day. The design looks round at first glance but is more complex up close: an octagonal middle case sits between a thin round bezel and caseback, and openworked lugs are welded to the bezel. The sapphire crystal is double curved, which changes how the dial looks from every angle.
Case, metals and dials
Most Code 11.59 models measure 41mm. At launch the collection came in white and pink gold, with yellow gold added later. In 2023 AP introduced cases with a black ceramic middle case framed in gold, along with smoked dials. Dials range from deep lacquered colors to textured and embossed finishes. Most models come on straps rather than bracelets, which keeps the watch light and dressy.
References to know
The Selfwinding ref. 15210 shows time and date with the calibre 4302. The Selfwinding Chronograph ref. 26393 uses the integrated flyback calibre 4401, the same calibre found in the current Royal Oak chronograph. The metal is shown in the reference suffix, such as BC for white gold and OR for pink gold. The collection also includes high complications: a perpetual calendar, a flying tourbillon and a minute repeater with AP's Supersonnerie system, developed for a louder, clearer chime.
What to look for
The curved crystal and slim bezel are the most delicate parts, so inspect them for chips and scratches. Openworked lugs should show no bending or rough edges. Check that the strap and buckle are correct for the reference. On the chronograph, test start, stop, reset and the flyback. Ask for box, papers and service history. The Code 11.59 is usually easier to find than a steel Royal Oak, which makes it a practical way into an in-house AP movement.

Questions
Audemars Piguet Code 11.59 questions
Why is it called Code 11.59?
CODE is an acronym Audemars Piguet gave the collection: Challenge, Own, Dare, Evolve. The number 11.59 refers to the last minute before midnight, the moment just before a new day begins, which AP used as a symbol of looking forward. The name signaled that this was a fresh design, separate from the Royal Oak family that had defined the brand for decades.
How does the Code 11.59 compare with the Royal Oak?
The Royal Oak is a steel or gold sports watch with an integrated bracelet and an octagonal bezel. The Code 11.59 is a round, dressier watch, usually on a strap, with a complex case and a domed crystal. The Royal Oak is far more in demand on the secondary market. The Code offers AP movements and finishing at a more approachable price.
How does the Code 11.59 wear on the wrist?
At 41mm with short, openworked lugs, it wears smaller than the number suggests and sits close to the wrist on a strap. The domed crystal adds some height at the center. Gold cases feel solid without being heavy, and the ceramic versions are a little lighter. It suits a wide range of wrists and works with a suit or casual clothes.
Is the Code 11.59 a good value?
On the secondary market, Code 11.59 models tend to trade closer to or below their original retail price than Royal Oaks do, especially early references from 2019. That makes them an appealing way to own an in-house AP movement in a gold case. Compare the time-only and chronograph models, and check condition, papers and service history before deciding.
