About Patek Philippe
Patek Philippe has made watches in Geneva since 1839 and has been owned by the Stern family since 1932. It is known for movement finishing of the highest order, for complications such as perpetual calendars, chronographs and minute repeaters, and for watches that are made to be handed down. Its long production history also makes it one of the easiest brands to research reference by reference.
The Calatrava, introduced in 1932, is the brand's classic round dress watch: clean dial, slim case and a simple, balanced design. The Nautilus, designed by Gerald Genta and launched in 1976, is the luxury sports watch with a porthole inspired case and a horizontally embossed dial, and it remains one of the most sought after watches in the world. The Aquanaut, first shown in 1997, takes a more casual approach with a rounded octagonal case and a textured dial, often on a composite strap.
Beyond those lines, Patek groups its complicated watches into two families. Complications covers annual calendars, world time watches, travel time models and chronographs. Grand Complications covers perpetual calendars, split seconds chronographs, minute repeaters and the most elaborate pieces the house makes. The Twenty~4 and Golden Ellipse lines round out the collection.
Patek references are straightforward once you know the pattern. The four digit number is the model, the letter after it is the case material (A for steel, R for rose gold, J for yellow gold, G for white gold, P for platinum), a /1 in the reference usually means a bracelet, and the three digits after the dash identify the dial version. For example, a 5711/1A-010 is the steel Nautilus on a bracelet with a blue dial.
Because many Patek models are produced in limited numbers, availability changes quickly. Every listing here shows its price and current details. To see a piece in person, call or text us and we will set a time at our office on West 47th Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenue.
