About Chopard
Chopard was founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard in the Swiss village of Sonvilier, where it made precise pocket watches. In 1963 the company was bought by Karl Scheufele, from a family of German goldsmiths, and the Scheufele family still runs it today. Under their direction Chopard became both a respected watchmaker and one of the best known jewelry houses in the world.
The Happy Diamonds concept, introduced in 1976, placed loose diamonds between two sapphire crystals so they could move freely over the dial. The idea carried into the Happy Sport in 1993, which combined steel and moving diamonds in a sporty watch that is still one of the brand's most popular lines. Chopard's jewelry watches, with diamond bezels, pave dials and gold bracelets, come from the same workshops as its high jewelry.
For collectors focused on watchmaking, the L.U.C collection, named after the founder, uses movements made in Chopard's own manufacture in Fleurier, many of them certified chronometers. The Alpine Eagle, launched in 2019, is the brand's integrated bracelet sports watch, inspired by the earlier St. Moritz, and it is made from a recycled steel alloy. The Mille Miglia line celebrates Chopard's long partnership with the classic Italian car race.
Because Chopard covers such a wide range, from diamond pieces to technical chronographs, the filters for metal, size and price are a quick way to narrow the list. Ladies models in the Happy Sport line often come in 30 and 36 mm sizes, while the Alpine Eagle is made in 33, 36 and 41 mm.
Diamond watches in particular are best judged in person, under natural light. Call or text us to set up a viewing at our office on West 47th Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenue, and tell us which pieces you would like to see.
