Rolex Sky-Dweller for sale in NYC

Sky-Dweller references in Oystersteel and white gold, yellow and Everose Rolesor and full gold, with the calibre 9001 and newer 9002, on Oyster, Jubilee and Oysterflex, new and pre-owned.

Rolex's most complicated everyday watch

Rolex launched the Sky-Dweller in 2012 as a watch for people who travel. It combines a second time zone with an annual calendar that needs adjusting only once a year, at the end of February. Rolex calls the calendar system Saros, after the astronomical cycle. The month shows through twelve small windows around the dial edge, one beside each hour marker, and home time reads from an off-center 24-hour disc.

The Ring Command bezel

All functions are set through the crown and the fluted Ring Command bezel. Turn the bezel to one of three positions and the crown sets the date, the local time or the reference time. It is an elegant system with few parts, but it means the bezel is functional, not decorative, and it should turn cleanly through its stops. The case is 42mm, and it wears large because of the wide dial.

References to know

The first generation from 2012 was gold only, including the 326938 in yellow gold, the 326939 in white gold and the 326135 in Everose on a leather strap. In 2017 Rolex added Rolesor versions, most notably the 326934 in steel with a white gold bezel and the 326933 in yellow Rolesor. These all use the calibre 9001. In 2023 the line moved to the calibre 9002 and the 336 series references, such as the 336934 and 336933. Gold versions on the Oysterflex strap give a lighter, sportier feel.

Buying a Sky-Dweller

Test every bezel position and confirm the date, local time and reference time all set without slipping. Check that the month indicator advances correctly. Blue and white dials on the 326934 are the most requested, so confirm the dial and hands match the reference. The Sky-Dweller is a large, technical watch, and service history matters more than on a time-only model. Ask about box and papers, and whether the bracelet is Oyster or Jubilee, since both were offered on Rolesor models.

Prices are listed on every watch. Call or text to see a Sky-Dweller in person by appointment in the Diamond District in Midtown Manhattan.

Questions

Rolex Sky-Dweller questions

How does the Sky-Dweller annual calendar work?

The calendar knows which months have 30 days and which have 31, so the date needs a manual correction only once a year, on March 1, after February. The current month is marked in one of the twelve small apertures around the dial. You correct it through the crown with the Ring Command bezel turned to the date position, without opening anything or using a tool.

Is the Sky-Dweller too big at 42mm?

It wears large because the dial runs nearly edge to edge and the lugs are broad. On wrists above about seven inches it sits well. On smaller wrists it looks bold, which some buyers want. The Jubilee and Oysterflex versions feel more flexible than the Oyster bracelet. Trying one on is the best test, since photos rarely show how it sits.

Sky-Dweller or GMT-Master II for travel?

Both show a second time zone. The GMT-Master II uses a 24-hour hand and a rotating ceramic bezel, can track a third zone and is a true sport watch. The Sky-Dweller adds an annual calendar and a fluted bezel, with a more involved setting system. Choose the GMT for simplicity and toughness, and the Sky-Dweller for the calendar and a dressier look.

Is steel and white gold better than full gold?

The 326934 and its successor give you every Sky-Dweller function with a white gold fluted bezel on steel, at a lower price than full gold. Full gold versions are heavier, warmer in tone and come in a wider range of dial colors. Gold also marks more easily. For daily travel, many buyers choose the steel and white gold version and keep gold for occasions.
