Rolex Submariner for sale in NYC

Submariner date and no-date references in steel, Rolesor and gold, from the 16610 and 14060M to the 41mm 126610LN, 124060 and 126610LV, with ceramic and aluminum bezels.

The dive watch standard

Rolex introduced the Submariner in 1953 as the first divers' wristwatch rated to 100 meters. It set the pattern most dive watches still follow: a black dial with large luminous markers, a rotating timing bezel and a screw-down crown. Rolex added a date in 1969 with the ref. 1680. Depth ratings grew over the decades, and today's models are rated to 300 meters with a Triplock crown and a unidirectional Cerachrom bezel.

Sizes and versions

For decades the Submariner measured 40mm with slim lugs. The ceramic generation, which reached steel in 2010, kept 40mm but added broad lugs and thicker crown guards, a shape collectors call the Maxi case. In 2020 the case grew to 41mm with slimmer lugs and a wider bracelet. The no-date model has a symmetrical, clean dial, and the date model adds a Cyclops lens. Both come in steel, and the date version also comes in yellow Rolesor, yellow gold and white gold.

References to know

The 14060 and 14060M are the five-digit no-date models with aluminum bezels, and the 16610 is the matching date model with the calibre 3135. The 16610LV of 2003 added a green aluminum bezel for the model's 50th anniversary. The 116610LN of 2010 brought the ceramic bezel and Glidelock clasp, and the 116610LV Hulk paired a green dial with a green bezel. The 114060 is the ceramic no-date. Current models are the 124060 no-date with the calibre 3230, the 126610LN date with the calibre 3235, the 126610LV with a green bezel and black dial, the 126613LB in blue Rolesor and the 126619LB in white gold.

What to check

Confirm the bezel turns one way only with firm clicks and lines up at twelve. Aluminum inserts fade and are often replaced. Look at the lume plots and hands, which should age evenly. A Glidelock clasp should adjust smoothly through each notch. Submariners are popular for aftermarket dials and bezels, and any custom piece here is labeled as custom. Ask for service history, and check the crown threads and seals if the watch will go in the water.

Prices are listed on every watch. Call or text to see Submariners in person by appointment in the Diamond District in Midtown Manhattan.

Questions

Rolex Submariner questions

Should I choose a Submariner with or without date?

The no-date has a balanced, symmetrical dial that many collectors see as the purest version. The date model is more practical and adds the Cyclops lens. Mechanically they are close: the no-date uses the calibre 3230 and the date uses the 3235. The no-date usually costs a little less, while the date offers more metal and color options.

Is the 41mm Submariner bigger than the 40mm?

Only slightly on paper. The 2020 models grew from 40 to 41mm but slimmed the lugs, so they look closer to the older five-digit Submariners than the Maxi case 116610. The bracelet is wider, now 21mm at the lugs. On the wrist the difference is small, and most buyers choose on dial, bezel and price rather than size.

What are the Kermit and the Hulk?

Both are green Submariners. The Kermit is the 16610LV from 2003, with a green aluminum bezel and a black dial, made for the model's 50th anniversary. The Hulk is the 116610LV from 2010, with a green ceramic bezel and a green sunburst dial. The current 126610LV went back to a black dial with a green bezel and is often called the Starbucks.

Submariner or GMT-Master II?

The Submariner is a dive watch with a 60-minute timing bezel and 300 meters of water resistance. The GMT-Master II is a travel watch with a 24-hour bezel and a second time zone, rated to 100 meters. The Submariner is a little more compact on the wrist. If you swim and dive or want the simplest sport Rolex, choose the Sub; if you fly often, the GMT.
