A watch with a jeweled crown
Chopard was founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard in the Swiss Jura and has been owned by the Scheufele family since 1963. The Imperiale collection arrived in the 1990s as a women's line inspired by the regal imagery of imperial Rome. Its signature is the cabochon gemstone set into the crown and repeated on the case, a jewelry detail that sets it apart from other luxury dress watches. Chopard has refined the line over the years, adding automatic movements and larger sizes while keeping the cabochon and the soft, domed silhouette.
Sizes, materials and dials
The 28mm Imperiale is the smallest and runs on quartz. The 36mm is the core size, offered with quartz or automatic movements, and the 40mm includes chronograph versions. Cases come in stainless steel, 18k rose gold and two-tone steel and rose gold. The bezel is engraved with Roman numerals, and the crown carries an amethyst or another colored cabochon depending on the version. Dials range from sunray finishes in silver, blue and purple to mother of pearl, often with diamond hour markers. Many models come on satin or leather straps, and others on metal bracelets.
What to look for
Check every cabochon for chips or loose settings, since the stones sit high on the crown and case. On diamond-set models, look for missing or dull stones and confirm whether the diamonds were set by Chopard. Aftermarket diamonds are sometimes added to steel models, and any custom piece on our site is marked as custom. Inspect mother of pearl dials for cracks or stains. On quartz models, ask when the battery was last changed and whether the seals were checked. Gold cases show polishing quickly, so the edges should still look crisp. Match the reference and serial number on the caseback to the papers.

Questions
Chopard Imperiale questions
Which Imperiale size should I choose?
The 36mm is the most popular size and works on most wrists, with enough presence to show off the dial. The 28mm is a jewelry watch, delicate and easy to wear with bracelets. The 40mm suits women who like a bold watch and men who want something with color and detail. Try the sizes side by side, since the cabochon crown adds visual width.
Quartz or automatic Imperiale?
Quartz models are thinner, keep accurate time and need only a battery change every few years. Automatic models wind as you wear them and appeal to buyers who like a mechanical movement. If you wear the watch occasionally, quartz is easier, since it keeps running in the drawer. If you wear it daily, either works well, so choose by size and dial first.
Steel or rose gold?
Steel is lighter, more casual and lower in price. Rose gold gives a warm color that suits the cabochon and holds value as a precious metal, but it is softer and scratches more easily. Two-tone models give you some gold color at a lower price than full gold. On the wrist, rose gold looks richer in evening light, while steel is easier to wear every day.
How do I care for the cabochons and mother of pearl?
Treat the Imperiale like fine jewelry. Avoid knocks against hard surfaces, since cabochon stones sit high and can chip. Keep perfume and lotion away from mother of pearl dials and from leather or satin straps. Clean the case with a soft dry cloth. Have the seals checked when the battery is changed or the movement is serviced, especially if you wear the watch near water.
